An illustrator and filmmaker who often signed his scifi artwork ΓÇ£Emsh,ΓÇ¥ Edmund Alexander Emshwiller helped bring the bold, crude illustrations of most scifi pulp magazines to a new art form with his sometimes dramatic, symbolic and humorous but always polished, self-assured style. Emshwiller studied art at the Ecole des Beaux Arts in Paris, the Art Students League in New York, and the University of Michigan before beginning his prolific career as the illustrator of hundreds of book covers (notably with Ace Books). Critically acclaimed, Emshwiller won the first Hugo for Best
